Badia a Coltibuono 2013 Chianti Classico
There were two cask samples provided which will eventually be blended to make the finished wine. The score given is an average of the two wines and may not be representative of the finished blend.
Sample 1 Gaiole – Pale ruby with orange tinges. Pronounced oatmeal nose wrapping up aromatic red fruit and orange blossom. Surprisingly lightweight palate with a lingering and quite tannic finish. Could have done with a little more concentration, but has complexity as well as an amazing nose. (WS) Score 16+ Drink 2015-2018
Sample 2 Castelnuovo Berardenga – Just mid ruby. More power and ripeness on the nose than the Gaiole version, and with elegance and bite on the palate. Densely tannic and typical for Castelnuovo and will secure a bright future too, but still needs integrating. Great length, yet still a little closed for the moment. (WS)
