Ex Arena 2021 IGP Pays d’Oc
Full bottle 1,405 g. Certified organic. Grown on sandy soil on a 40-m-deep bed of marine sediment 20 km south of the Faugères appellation. 85% 40-year-old Grenache and 15% densely planted Mourvèdre. Hand-picked quite early with each parcel vinified separately – ambient yeast. No added sulphites during vinification. Gentle extraction during three to four weeks’ maceration. No oak.
Pale garnet. Flirtatious, lifted nose with some strong savoury elements as well as the raspberry fruit of delicately made Grenache. A close relative of any fine contemporary Grenache/Garnacha. Beautiful balance. This just hums along and is already gorgeously approachable with a skein of very fine tannins lurking underneath to convince you that you needn’t worry about keeping it a few years either. But not so much tannin that you couldn’t consider drinking this without food. Such poise! And great persistence. A wine to soothe a sore throat.
