Elena Walch Lagrein AA Riserva Vigna Castle Ringberg DOC 2011

Gambero Rosso Italian Wines 2016 pages 831-832: *** Tre Bicchieri
One of the most esteemed winemakers in the region, having come up with some of the labels that have relaunched Bolzano’s image on the international wine scene, Elena Walch is now accompanied on a permanent basis by her daughters Julia and Karoline. Her vineyards cover a total area of over 30 hectares, the most prestigious of which are the Castel Ringberg estate in Caldaro and Kastelaz in Termeno. Production would not be possible without the help of a select group of local grower-producers who supply the winery with grapes. The Castel Ringberg Lagrein is a pedigree red. Not content with focusing on the typical exuberance of the varietal, it explores the crisper nuances, marrying firm structure, suppleness and length.

Elena Walch, Vigna Castel Ringberg Lagrein Riserva 2011 Alto Adige

Impenetrable dark crimson. Quite pure dark fruit nose with a note of oak. Just a tiny bit singed, but doesn’t distract too much. Amazing acidity and freshness on the palate, and supple dark fruit on the finish. Just medium bodied and completely dry. Modern style, yet with plenty of personality. (WS)
