The historic producer owned by Elena Walch cultivates over 30 hectares of land in some of Bassa Atesina and Oltradige’s most fruitful areas. Highlights include the Kastelaz and Castel Ringberg vineyards (the former overlooks the small village of Tramin from above, the latter is a gentle east-facing slope near Kaltern). Other small tracts form a prized viticulviticultural patrimony, making for a high-profile range of wines. If their more ambitious wines refer back to the vineyard of origin, the Grande Cuvée Beyond The Clouds is, instead, a selection of the best grapes. The 2018 put in a performance for the ages: the nose captures a whirlwind of fruits, flowers and spices, all of which is brought out on a palate where the watchword is ‘elegance’. The Lagrein Riserva ’17, made with grapes from the Castel Ringberg estate, is characterized by dark, fruity aromas, with smoky notes more evident on its full, rigorous palate.
